Did you know that most criminals will actually target to rob your home during the hours of 10am-3pm? In fact, according to the FBI, daytime burglaries actually occur on average about 1.6 times the number of nighttime burglaries.¹ If this is the case, how can you best protect your home and its surroundings from crime during the day?
Befriend your neighbors. That is the easiest and most efficient step to take to help prevent crime during the day. Having a good support system when it comes to your home and protecting all of its outdoor belongings could only benefit you. Your neighbors might not be able to tell a difference between workmen coming into your home or criminals from the outside perspective. However, having your neighbors as friends will mutually benefit as you keep watch on each other's yard and home. It never hurts to have an extra set of eyes on your property, especially during the day.
Another helpful tip is closing your garage regularly. Only keep your garage door open when you are working in it or in the front yard. You don’t want to leave any open access point that would entice a criminal to act. Don’t let anyone have eyes on the valuables in your garage that could be seen from the road just because of a lack of care in closing it!
These simple acts will only help protect your home and its surroundings long-term. Becoming friends with your neighbors and surrounding community will be an extremely valuable part of preventing crime to your home and its valuable outdoor assets.
